Nox JMA 16 First Impressions
Nox, a heavyweight in the Padel world, has officially entered the 2026 pickleball market with their X-Foam Series. Leading the charge for hybrid fans is the JMA 16, the signature paddle of pro Jhonnatan Medina Alvarez.
Here is the breakdown from our first sessions with it.
The Specs: A Stability Anomaly
The JMA 16 is a 16mm hybrid that manages to feel incredibly fast while maintaining high stability.
Core: X-Foam (A Gen 4 floating foam core in the "diving board" style, covering the top half for targeted pop).
Surface: Textured T700 Raw Carbon Fiber.
Swingweight: 109–110 (Remarkably light and head-light).
Twistweight: 6.80 (Very high for a hybrid, providing a massive sweet spot and forgiveness on off-center hits).
Handle: 5 inches (On the shorter side, which may be a dealbreaker for two-handed backhand players).
On-Court Performance: Hands Over Hard Drives
The JMA 16 falls into a specific category: it has more pop than it does raw power.
The Pop: This paddle is a deadly at the kitchen line. The ball unloads off the face quickly, making your counters and punch volleys feel crisp and dangerous.
The Power: While drives are solid, they don't have the same "heavy plow-through" as an elongated paddle like the Nox JC6. Because it's so head-light, you may find yourself adding lead tape to 3 and 9 o'clock to give it more "juice" on baseline drives.
The Feel: Despite the high pop, it doesn’t have the stiff board like feel. It retains a surprisingly good touch, allowing you to dial in your drops and resets once you get used to the faster exit velocity.
The Verdict: Who is it for?
The Nox JMA 16 is for the aggressive player.
If you win your points through fast hands and stability at the net, this paddle is a top-tier choice. It’s light enough to prevent "heavy arm" during long sessions but stable enough to handle high-level pace without twisting in your hand.
Note: If you prefer more reach or a longer handle for a two-handed backhand, you might want to look at the JC6 (Elongated) version of the X-Foam series instead.
