Thrive Ignite (Elongated) vs. Mark Unmarked Review: Head‑to‑Head Foam Paddle Breakdown
Two new elongated foam paddles landed on my doorstep at the same time — the Thrive Ignite (Elongated) and the Mark Unmarked. Naturally, I took both out for a full play test and compared them head‑to‑head. Here’s everything you need to know about how they stack up.
Thrive Ignite (Elongated) — First Impressions
The elongated Ignite is the newest addition to Thrive’s lineup. The original hybrid Ignite released months ago and stood out because it didn’t have the hollow, echoing feedback typical of foam paddles. Instead, it leaned more toward an all‑court feel with muted feedback and controlled power.
I expected the elongated version to feel identical — just stretched into an elongated shape. That wasn’t the case.
Feel & Construction
The new elongated Ignite:
Is hollow and stiff
Feels very similar to a Gen 3 paddle
Has noticeably more pop and feedback than the hybrid Ignite
Power & Spin
Power sits on the lower end of the power category, similar to paddles like a Pro IV and Gen 3s.
Spin is excellent thanks to Thrive’s Clear Fusion grit, which continues to deliver high RPMs.
Specs (My Model)
Swingweight: 116
Twistweight: 6.25 These numbers are light for an elongated paddle, giving it good maneuverability.
Overall Thoughts
This elongated Ignite:
Is a solid performance paddle
Feels closest to a Gen 3 paddle among foam paddles
Is not the elongated version of the hybrid Ignite’s feel
Is a great option for players wanting Gen 3 ball feel with foam‑core durability
Mark Unmarked — First Impressions
The Unmarked is Mark Pickleball’s newest elongated foam paddle. It has a very distinct look:
A rounded aero curve
A wide bottom taper
A shape that appears to taper all the way up (but actually doesn’t)
But the real surprise came from the numbers.
Specs (My Model)
Swingweight: 109
Twistweight: 6.35
Static Weight: 7.80 oz
A 109 swingweight on an elongated paddle is extremely rare — that’s widebody territory. Yet it still maintains a twistweight over 6.3, which is impressive.
On‑Court Performance
Despite the ultra‑low swingweight:
The paddle felt very stable
Sweetspot performance was surprisingly strong
It outperformed the Neonic FLX in stability at similar swingweights
Feel & Construction
Compared to the previous Mark 2 R3:
The R3 has a softer face due to kevlar
The Unmarked has a livelier, poppier surface thanks to a fiberglass middle layer
Power
Firepower is:
Higher than the R3
Solidly mid‑power category in stock form
Likely to reach top‑tier power once perimeter weight is added
Spin
The Unmarked uses VelosiGrit, which produced spin levels comparable to the Ignite’s Clear Fusion grit.
Ignite vs. Unmarked — Direct Comparison
Both paddles:
Use durable high grit
Are USAP‑approved
But they serve different types of players.
Spin
Tie — both generate elite spin.
Power
Unmarked wins. It has more pop in hand battles and more plow‑through on drives.
Control
Ignite wins. It’s easier to manage, easier to reset, and easier to keep the ball soft.
Maneuverability
Based on listed averages:
Ignite: 115–118 swingweight
Unmarked: 112–115 swingweight
Unmarked wins — especially considering my model came in at 109.
Stability
Despite the low swingweight, the Unmarked felt extremely stable. With added weight, it will only get better.
Who Each Paddle Is For
Thrive Ignite (Elongated)
Best for players who want:
Gen 3 ball feel
High spin
A durable foam core
A more controlled power profile
At $220 before discount, it’s a strong alternative to premium Gen 3 paddles from bigger brands.
Mark Unmarked
Best for players who want:
A fast elongated paddle
High firepower
High stability
A unique feel with lively pop
This is the more advanced paddle of the two.
Which One Would I Use in a Tournament?
If you know my playstyle, you already know the answer.
I don’t perform well with high‑firepower paddles — I struggle to control them. So my pick is the elongated Ignite. It was the paddle I played the best with during testing.
That said, the Unmarked is definitely more fun to use.
