POTW Ep 1: Enhance MPP Hybrid, Luzz Glider, and Selkirk Omni

1. Luzz Glider (UPA Approved Version)

The Verdict: A fantastic, budget-friendly Gen 3 option that includes a durable grit texture.

The Specs

  • Swingweight: 111

  • Twistweight: 6.55

  • Price: Matches original model pricing (Highly affordable)

The core construction here is identical to Luzz's previous Gen 3 floating core design, but it features a massive dual-upgrade: an enhanced, highly textured durable grit face, and official UPA approval.

On the court, the new Glider steps down slightly in raw power and pop compared to the older model, leaning more comfortably into the all-court category. It is highly maneuverable and offers a remarkably stable feel for its weight class.

The Takeaway: Durable grit is inherently less effective long-term on polypropylene cores than on pure foam paddles, but this UPA-approved variant still brings superior spin retention over the older USAP version. Since Luzz kept the price point nearly identical, this is a no-brainer recommendation for competitive players looking for an affordable, high-performance hybrid.

2. Selkirk Omni (16mm Elongated)

The Verdict: A premium all-court adaptation of the Boomstik, but the removable weight system raises red flags.

The Specs

  • Without Weights: 112 Swingweight | 5.6 Twistweight (Plays like an unweighted Ronbus R3 Quanta)

  • With Weights (Stock): 122 Swingweight | 7.00 Twistweight

  • Price: ~$300 retail

The Omni is marketed as an all-court version of the Selkirk Boomstik, featuring an adjustable system of 7.5-gram removable MOI weights that snap onto the edge guard like pickle clips.

To be perfectly honest, I am not a fan of this hardware. Just like past clip-on weighting systems, attaching and detaching these heavy mechanisms can quickly chew up and damage your edge guard. During my brief testing phase, I already noticed visible scuffs and scratches.

Performance-wise, playing with the weights attached gives you a ball feel heavily reminiscent of the Boomstik, but with more manageable power and better ball-pocketing dwell time.

The Takeaway: Most players will actually benefit from completely ditching the 7.5-g clip weights. Stripping them off drops the paddle into a super-light platform, allowing you to manually customize the perimeter with lead or tungsten tape to a sweet spot of 116–118 swingweight. Think of it as an all-court Ronbus R3 Quanta. It's a great paddle, but at $300, it's a steep investment.

3. Enhance Turbo MPP Hybrid

The Verdict: The flat-top hybrid shape I’ve been waiting for. This is officially my new main paddle.

The Specs

  • Swingweight: 116

  • Twistweight: 6.85

  • Price: $100 (with discount codes)

If you follow the channel, you know I generally dislike hybrid paddles. Ninety percent of them copy the curved-top design popularized by Six Zero, which lowers the balance point, sacrifices top-of-the-face sweet spot area, and just doesn't feel right to me.

Enhance took a different approach with the Turbo MPP Hybrid, rolling out a 16.3" x 7.7" frame with a squared-off, flat top. It feels like an under utilized shape in the hybrid market: lowering dimensions of an elongated just slightly but still maintaining a similar contact point.

The ball feel retains that signature, premium MPP floating foam core punch—electric, crisp, and slightly poppier off the face than the elongated Turbo, but with a vastly superior sweet spot.

Why I’m Switching: Lately, I haven't been logging as many hours on the court as I'd like, and my fundamentals need a bit of sharpening. This flat-top hybrid brings instant forgiveness and stability to my game without forcing me to alter my mechanics or contact point. I’m currently dialing in the weight setup, starting with a simple 3-gram strip of Pickleball Effect Tuning Tape at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions to beef up the plow-through. At $100, this is easily the best value-to-performance play for me right now.
